Affordable Nature
Tanzania

Discover quintessential African landscapes when you take a walk on the wild side in Tanzania. A relaxed attitude combined with some of the best wildlife spotting on the continent is within affordable reach. Your safari hits all of the incredible spots, from the unique eco-system of Ngorongoro Crater, the vast savannahs of the Serengeti, and the flamingo-lined shores of Lake Manyara. Along the way, enjoy lunch at eco-friendly Gibb’s Farm and see where the roots of modern man were unearthed by the Leakeys. An unforgettable adventure awaits you.

Days 1/2 - New York/London/Nairobi/Arusha
Board your overnight flight to London, where you connect with your flight to Arusha via Nairobi. Upon arrival you will be escorted to your hotel located at the foot of Mount Meru surrounded by beautiful gardens teeming with flowers, birds and butterflies. IMPALA HOTEL.(Meals Aloft)

Days 3/4 - Gibb’s Farm/Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Arrive at an oasis of green and tranquility, the eco-friendly, privately-owned Gibb’s Farm for their legendary lunch made with organic fruits and vegetables enhanced by homegrown coffee and teas. Afterwards, walk to a nearby waterfall and see the caves made by elephants. Continue to Ngorongoro Crater – an extinct volcano and World Heritage site. Your lodge is poised on the crater’s rim affording spectacular views of Africa’s ‘Garden of Eden.’ The next morning, descend almost 2,000 feet through misty clouds to the crater’s floor for a treasure trove of wildlife and scenery. Swaggering prides of black-maned lions roam the grasslands, home to large herds of wildebeest, buffalo, hartebeest, eland and zebra, with hyena packs close behind.  Protected around the clock, this is the best area to see the rare black rhino. Colorful flamingo inhabit the shores of the soda lakes, along with spoonbill and jacana, while Hildebrandt’s Fancolin and turaco lurk in the forest and Verreaux’s Eagle and Auger Buzzard soar high above. Bull elephants with massive tusks charge the plains while their female counterparts, along with the solitary leopard, meander through the forests. NGORONGORO WILDLIFE LODGE. (B,L,D Daily)

Days 5/6/ 7 - Olduvai Gorge/Serengeti National Park
Discover Olduvai Gorge, where in 1959, Louis and Mary Leakey uncovered Zinjanthropus and Homo Habilis. One of the world’s most important paleoanthropological locations, tour the museum to learn about their archeological methods and remarkable finds. Resume your drive to the Serengeti – the crown jewel of Tanzania’s protected areas and host to the annual centuries-old migration of over one million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebra with neighboring Maasai Mara in Kenya. Watch as cheetah, leopard and hyena keep watch on the herds. Explore the open plains for giraffe, topi, buffalo and Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelle. The acacia and sausage trees, and wild date palm thickets of the Seronera Valley are home to vervet monkey, baboon and elephant. Look for lion stalking its prey along rivers and hippo pools inhabited with scores of water birds, including Marabou stork, with opportunistic jackal waiting nearby for the leftovers. Prehistoric rock outcroppings host hyrax and dwarf mongoose. Rise with the sun and soar through the skies on a balloon safari for exhilarating views of the Serengeti (at additional cost). Your lodge is situated in the heart of the Serengeti along the migratory route and on the edge of the Seronera River. SERONERA WILDLIFE LODGE. (B,L,D Daily)

Day 8 - Lake Manyara National Park
Drive to Lake Manyara National Park, an ornithological paradise inhabited by over 350 bird species.  Elusive tree-climbing lions lay in wait on branches while eagles, vultures, storks, swifts and swallows glide along the spectacular cliffs overlooking the pink shimmering lake with thousands of flamingos. Stretch your legs near the hippo pool. Examine the amazing ‘upside-down’ baobab tree, and the magnificent giant fig and mahogany trees that give shelter to blue vervet monkey, baboon, bushbuck and elephant. On the edge of the Rift Valley escarpment overlooking Lake Manyara is your luxurious lodge. LAKE MANYARA SERENA SAFARI LODGE. (B,L,D)

Days 9/10 - Arusha/Nairobi/London/New York
