Shompole
Shompole lies on the edge of the Great Rift Valley overlooking sun-baked plains and riverine forest, great creased volcanic mountains and lush green wetlands. It is a creation of imagination and the product of a partnership with the Maasai people of that area. Constructed to emphasize the beauty of natural materials combined with flowing water and smooth white walls, the camp is truly an unusual and exquisite place.
Shompole is one of those places that quite literally takes your breath away. It is a fusion of design, styles and moods that helps soothe the most battered of souls. Shompole is a place for reflection and rest, in the lap of sublime comfort. This is where you listen to the wind in the grass and when you might feel, for the first time on safari, that you’ll skip the early morning game drive. Each room, set into the Nguruman escarpment, stares east off towards Lake Natron and Mount Shompole. Completely open to the elements, the rising sun floods the open rooms, shower and bathroom. There is a theme of water throughout the lodge which trickles down interlinking gulleys before plunging into private plunge pools in each room. Simply put, Shompole is one of the most beautiful places in the world to do little more than lie on one's bed, swim laps in the pool, enjoy a pampering massage or take off on the odd gentle safari complete with delicious ‘eats’ and a glass of chilled white wine.
