Ol Malo
To stay at Ol Malo, which means "The Place of the Greater Kudu," is to live by a different rhythm – to measure the day by the time-worn patterns of nature. Wake up to see the sunrise framing the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya. Celebrate the new day with a dawn ride into the wilderness. Feel the night’s chill burn off with the rising of the great equatorial sun. Keep the tempo with the world by the roll of the camel’s stride. Visit the colorful Samburu nomads of the North and sink with the dying sun into the waters of the pool. At night, luxuriate in the peace and comfort of Ol Malo and tune into the magical sounds of wild Africa under an ancient starscape. Your hosts, Colin and Rocky Francombe, designed and built Ol Malo. They are glad to share their knowledge and love of this magical land, their tales of adventures with its wildlife and Samburu peoples and welcome you to their extraordinary bush home in Kenya. Built of natural rock with thatched roofs and shaped by the rocks and the curve of ancient olive wood, their home overlooks a much frequented waterhole and salt lick, surrounded by miles of rugged bush with Mount Kenya looming in the distance. The fabulous swimming pool, edged with natural stone, appears to have emerged from the landscape. At Ol Malo days are as full or as restful as you prefer. Early morning game-walks, followed by a hot field breakfast will long be remembered. Vehicles, horses and even camels are available for game viewing and experiencing the grassland plains. Refreshing to the mind and spirit, Ol Malo is the fulfillment of a perfect safari interlude.
