Days 10/11 - San Jose/Arenal Volcano
Drive along twisting roads to discover Arenal Volcano, one of the 10 most active in the world. Majestically towering over 5,300 feet into the sky, watch as gold-colored lava pours down the slopes and hear the resounding booms warning of impending mini-eruptions. Next afternoon, visit Tabacon Hot Springs Spa and bask in the Tabacon River, whose thermo mineral waters come straight from the heart of the volcano naturally heated to a soothing 102 degrees Fahrenheit. The resort features mineral water pools, indoor Jacuzzi, therapeutic massages, plus pathways and bridges over hot running streams to see the rich vegetation up close. Your lodge has the perfect view of the volcano with its location chosen by scientists from the Smithsonian Institute to aid in their studies, and your rooms are housed near the volcano museum with an active seismograph monitoring the volcano’s activity. Days 12/13 - Monteverde Cloud Forest
Explore Monteverde, a lush forest community and home to over 320 bird species, including one of the most beautiful, the Resplendent Quetzal. Walk through the heavenly Cloud Forest Reserve on the Selvatura Treetop tour – a series of bridges, trails and platforms that allows you an incredible view. For the adventurous, swing through the canopy and cloud forest on a system of cables (at additional cost).Your lodge is nestled on a lush, mountainous slope with many self-guided hiking trails that lead to primary and secondary forests, open pastures and panoramic views of the Gulf of Nicoya. Located just minutes from the Santa Elena Rainforest Reserve and the Bajo Del Tigre Trail, your lodge also has a variety of optional activities (at additional cost) including horseback riding and mountain biking. Days 14/15 - Sarchi/San Jose/Miami
After breakfast, depart for San Jose stopping en route at Sarchi known for local handicrafts, especially the infamous wooden oxcarts. Next morning transfer to the airport the next morning for your flights home. HOTEL BOUGAINVILLEA. (B; B)
