Day 1 - Cape Town
Complete your African adventure with a journey to Cape Town, one of the loveliest cities in the world. Upon your flight’s arrival, you will be escorted to your elegant hotel located on the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront with neighboring yachts, restaurants and shops. Day 2 - Cape Town/Cape Point
Ascend Table Mountain by cable car for a panoramic view of Cape Town. Watch out for guinea pig-like creatures called rock hyraxes (closest living relative to elephants) scampering about looking for an easy meal. Birding is amazing and there are more than 1400 species of flowering plants. Board your luxury motorcoach for a coastal drive surrounded by rugged shorelines, spectacular mountains and the blue sea, to the Cape of Good Hope. Along the way, see Devils Peak, Lion’s Head and Table Mountain. Climb the steps or take a funicular ride to the top of Cape Point. Explore Cape Point Nature Reserve which is host to approximately half of the 2,700 species of indigenous plants contained on the Cape Peninsula. View 250 bird species from ostriches to minuscule sunbirds. Watch the African (Jackass) Penguins waddle up and down into and out of the sea at Boulders Beach. COMMODORE HOTEL. (B,L)
Day 3 - Cape Town/Winelands
Venture on an expedition to the wine lands region below Boland Mountains and its internationally-acclaimed vineyards of Franschhoek, Stellenbosch and Paarl. All the estates offer tasting and cellar tours, plus you will enjoy lunch in one of them. Discover antique shops and gardens nestled in Franschhoek’s “Valley of the Huguenots” where the French settled in 1688, explore the historic, university town of Stellebosch with Oak-lined streets next to water furrows and elegant Cape Dutch, Victorian and Georgian architecture. Visit Boschendal, a historic estate with brilliantly preserved Cape Dutch buildings and a collection of priceless period furniture. COMMODORE HOTEL. (B,L)
Day 4 - Cape Town
Visit the informal settlement of New Rest in Guguletu. See how the local community has reached out to re-shape their township in the face of extremely difficult conditions. With your resident guide, visit the crèche, community center and nursery built with bricks made at a project in the settlement. Boat over to Robben Island which was a place of banishment, exile, isolation and imprisonment for nearly 400 years. Now it is a World Heritage Site. Stroll through Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, founded in 1913 and a living display featuring living fossils, silver trees and an avenue of camphor and fig trees planted by Cecil Rhodes in 1898 and a wild almond hedge planted by Dutch settler Jan van Riebeeck in 1660. Days 5/6 - Cape Town/Washington D.C. or New York
