Botswana Activities

Go wildlife viewing on a mokoro (dug-out canoe), the classic activity that epitomizes any journey to the Okavango Delta, where oftentimes, it is the only means of reaching certain locations. Elephant back safaris are also enjoyable and an unforgettable way to view animals. Perhaps as special as the ride itself, is being in touch and educated about the complex behavior of elephants and viewing this behavior at such close quarters.

Other optional activities to participate while in Botswana:

  • Day and night game drives in open 4x4 Landcruisers.
  • Game walks with Bushmen trackers.
  • Explore undocumented archaeological sites at Jack's and San Camps.
  • Wildlife viewing from 4WD Quad bikes.
  • Go fishing at the Chobe and Linyanti Rivers and in the Okavango Delta.
  • Enjoy sundowner cruises (water-levels permitting.)
  • Motor-boat excursions in most areas.
  • Wildlife viewing in specialized hides at most camps.
  • Interpretive bush walks with specialized guides.
  • Enjoy horseback riding safaris through the Delta.
  • Enjoy elephant-back rides at Abu Camp.

  • Camp out under the Botswana sky at Chitabe, Jao and Xigera Camps.
  • Meet with Dr. Tico McNutt while at Chitabe Camp, head of the Botswana Wild Dog Project.

DID YOU KNOW?

The largest animal ever swallowed was probably a 130-lb impala, which was consumed by a 16-foot long African rock python. Pythons dislocate their jaws to swallow large prey whole.
