Discover the wild and beautiful contrasts of Mother Nature on this journey to Chile, the most southern country in the world, bordered by the Andes, the world’s second highest mountain range, and 2,700 miles of Pacific coastline, unmatched by any other country. Begin in Santiago, the metropolitan center of life in this South American hub, where your introduction to the German colonial roots of this nation will set the stage for feeling as the original settlers felt – stunned and captivated by the beauty of Chile. Visit the Atacama Desert, the driest place on Earth, with vast and endless sands. Discover the thriving Lake District and explore a landscape dotted with active volcanoes, roaring waterfalls, and quaint German architecture before heading into the untamed wilderness of Patagonia, one of the most geologically diverse places on our planet. This is an adventure into the mysteries of Mother Nature herself, where you will discover just what this miraculous planet we call home is capable of.

Degree of Difficulty –

Fly to Santiago, the bustling capital of Chile. In the afternoon, head out on a guided tour of the city, home to one third of the total population of Chile! Discover iconic landmarks along the way, such as the La Moneda presidential palace, the Plaza de Armas main square, and the Museum of Pre-Columbian Art. Of course, you’ll want to take a moment at San Cristobal Hill to take in the panoramic view of the city and the omnipresent Andes on the horizon. Tonight, enjoy a welcome dinner and get your first taste of Chilean cuisine. Next day, set out on a full-day excursion to Valparaíso, a UNESCO World Heritage city surrounded by jaw-dropping views of the bay, beautiful German-style architecture, and the home of Pablo Neruda. On the way back, enjoy a stop in the Casablanca Valley for wine tasting at Casas del Bosque. HOTEL CUMBRES LASTARIA.

The varieties of climatic regions present in Chile are almost too numerous to mention, stretching north to south from the tropics to the sub-Antarctic and with elevations as diverse as Andean peaks and marshes many feet below sea level. The best time for our current itinerary is November through April. Our summer months, June-September, are not a good time to visit as it is too cold in Puerto Varas & Chiloe Island.
